Constellations can be termed as a certain area of the celestial sphere. Constellations are also known to be defined by exact boundaries. Constellations can also be used loosely to refer to just the more prominent visible stars that form a pattern in that area. It is a fact worth mentioning that the constellations are not merely the twelve known astrology signs, but many more different things. The Greeks had more than we account for today. Through the centuries we have even changed a lot of signs.
Actually there are many lost constellations in our modern world, how or why such things have changed must be an interesting subject in itself. Even the modern zodiac signs were not twelve like we use today, it is clearly evident that after the Greeks invasion into Egypt, these things were changed. In the case that one looks at the constellations of today than the thing that one is going to perceive is that some boring dots that are connected by some thin lines. Such type of structure does not make any sense to many.
Constellations in colloquial usage are a term that is called by astronomers as asterism. Asterism basically means a group of celestial bodies usually stars that appear to form a pattern in the sky or appear visibly related to each other. In astronomy, however, Constellations are an area of the sky, and contains all the stars and other celestial objects within that area. The International Astronomical Union that is shortly known as the IAU divides the sky into near about eighty eight official Constellations. Most of these are centered on the traditional constellations of Western culture. They were devised by ancient people to be able to recognize stars in the sky. The shapes of these resemble objects familiar to those people.
